About Me

Hi there, welcome to my website! My name is Xuan Liu,  but you can also call me Lucian – it’s phonetically similar to my Chinese name.

I am a third-year Ph.D. student in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech, advised by Prof. Zhenyu (James) Kong. Prior to this, I obtained my B.Eng. and M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University,  working with Prof. Jinglong Chen.  During my undergraduate study, I majored in Mechanical Engineering and minored in Computer Science and Technology.

My research focuses on physics-informed machine learning, neural operators for metal additive manufacturing, generative models, reinforcement learning, and transfer learning. If you would like to collaborate or talk with me, please feel free to reach out.
